![]() It's currently also running a 10% launch discount until next Thursday, August 18th. There are few games in which a grappling hook drone would not be the best part, in my opinion.įor those who fancy a bit of grappling around a strange planet and fighting aliens, and who didn't pick it up the first time around, Axiom Verge 2 is out now on Steam for £15.49. As a known small robot enjoyer this is unsurprising to me. She also declared the drone and its grappling hook the best thing about the game, as you can see in the video above. "Go in with this kind of mindset, and you'll almost certainly have a cracking time with it. Of course, they could also mean Steam and. ![]() "There's a surprising amount to discover here, and working out how to proceed, making mental notes of where to return to later and using my powers to open up new paths and possibilities (some of which were proper lightbulb moments) all scratched my favourite Metroidvania itches," she wrote. The sequel to the Metroidvania original from 2015, Axiom Verge 2 puts you in the shoes of Indra, a billionaire moored in a mysterious pixelated world. Katharine was a fan when the game launched on the Epic Games Store last year, as detailed in her Axiom Verge 2 review. I believe Happ has said he envisions the Axiom Verge story to take 5 games to finish?Įdit: Like the first game, the soundtrack is so damn good.Per a Tweet from developer Tom Happ, now that the game's on Steam it's also playable on the Steam Deck. Overall, it was a refreshing take on a sequel and added a great deal of intriguing details to the overall plot of the series that I can't wait to learn more about as the series continues. It still feels like an Axiom Verge game, but it also feels different at the same time. ![]() Instead of doing the "safe" thing and just making a "more of the same" kind of sequel, Happ took some risks and a different approach by changing things up. I highly recommend anyone who enjoyed Axiom Verge 1's story to jump right in, but expect it to not be a 1:1 sequel. I can't wait for more sequels to get more bits of story to piece together. Without spoiling anything, it's definitely more exploration focused than the first game, and all of the gameplay mechanic shifts seem entirely narrative driven, which I appreciated since I'm all in on the lore and story Happ is setting out to tell. The game was later released on Steam and PlayStation 5 in August 2022. It is the sequel to Axiom Verge and was released on August 11, 2021, for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and Windows (exclusive to the Epic Games Store client). It took a bit of time for the game mechanic curveballs to grow on me, but I ended up really clicking with it and loving it more the more I played. Axiom Verge 2 is a Metroidvania video game by American indie developer Thomas Happ Games. Just finished this and 100%'ed it last night. At the same time though, I don't want it to be rushed. I really hope the third game does not take as long to make. If you have an affinity for metroidvania games, oldschool games, or simply games that have fascinating worlds and stories, I urge you to play Axiom Verge 1 and 2. It ended up being my favorite soundtrack of last year that I nominated on Era for the Best OST poll. I welcomed the change and found the sequel to be superior to the first game.Īxiom Verge 1 had a stellar soundtrack, and 2 had an even better one. The general consensus was that the game was good, but a step down from the first game. Explore a sprawling, alien world in the sequel to the award winning Axiom Verge. The change in equipment proved to be controversial unfortunately. But the game is still very much a metroidvania in its DNA. While the first game gave the player an arsenal of guns that made the game feel like metroid, the second game gives the player an upgradable melee weapon and fixed equipment that harkens more to Zelda. The one thing that was different from the first game was the lack of guns. On a more gameplay perspective, Axiom Verge 2 improved on the level design, and almost every other aspect of the first game. There was already 6 years between the first two games. Hopefully he doesn't burn out before he finishes them. ![]() Thomas Happ has said in the past that he has plans for 5 or 6 games to tell the full story. I don't have much else to say other than it's fucking amazing and I wish that I could play the third game right now to see where the story goes. The player does not play as the same character exploring the same world they play as a new character in a new world, with ties to the first game that only become more apparent the deeper you get into the game. The sequel doubledowned on that mythology by expanding it. I devoured every lore bit that I could find. The game presented players with a desolate and haunting world that begged attention and investigation. One of my favorite aspects of the original game was the mythology. The first game was one of my favorite games of 2015, and I had just started my vacation, which left me nothing but time to fully enjoy the game. When Axiom Verge 2 was shadowdropped last year, I could not have been happier. ![]()
